Celebration of Life Dr. Joseph Noah Jackson
Sunrise: July 12, 1937 Sunset: August 2025
Dr. Joseph N. Jackson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, inventor, and faithful servant of his community, entered eternal rest in August 2025. Born in Harvey, Louisiana, to the late Ernest Louis Jackson and Octavia May Jackson, Joseph lived a life marked by intellect, faith, and an unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and lived his life guided by humility, generosity, and love. After serving honorably in the United States Army, he pursued higher education, earning advanced degrees, including a doctorate. His brilliant mind and compassionate spirit led him into a lifetime of innovation and service.
A true pioneer, Dr. Jackson held six U.S. patents, including the groundbreaking
TeleCommander, the first programmable television remote control featuring parental content-blocking technology that paved the way for the V-Chip. His later innovations extended to women’s health, culminating in the creation of the Fem-Choice MD fertility prediction
device. As co-founder of the Black Inventions Museum, he ensured that the achievements of Black innovators would be honored and remembered for generations to come.... In addition to his inventive accomplishments, Dr. Jackson served with distinction as a Senior Commissioner for the City of Hawthorne beginning in 2016, offering steady leadership and wise counsel to his community.
Above all, Joseph cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to Lourdes Jackson, a guiding light to his children, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy is not only defined by invention and service, but by the love, faith, and dedication he poured into uplifting others.
Dr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Rowena H. Jackson Struggs, Patricia P. Jackson, Earl Willie Jackson, Sr., David Oral Jackson, and Beverly Maureen Jackson-Epps; and his son, Ronald Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lourdes Jackson; his brother, Ernest
Jackson; his sister, Anna Jackson-Ellis; his children Michael Jackson, Victor Jackson
(La’Tasha), Melanie McDonald, Joy Sims, Bruce Jackson (Lisa), Annette Morrison, and
Kimberly Sola (Roberto); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and dear friends who will forever carry his legacy forward.
